This role is vital to the success of Essen Bakery by supporting management in executing daily operations during assigned shifts while guiding the team and handling designated administrative responsibilities. The Cafe Operations Supervisor is responsible for deploying staff effectively and assigning tasks to ensure that team members provide an exceptional experience for our esteemed customers. It is essential for the Cafe Operations Supervisor to stay informed about all new offerings, promotions, events, and updates, and to communicate these to the team at the start and/or conclusion of each shift. This position serves as a key representative for customer service, addressing any inquiries or concerns that require escalation beyond the standard customer service team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Exhibits integrity, honesty, and knowledge that support the culture, values, and mission of Essen Bakery. Maintains composure during busy periods or unexpected situations to uphold store standards and set a positive example for other team members.
- Proactively assesses customer and store needs by continuously observing the environment and patrons for cues. Shares relevant information with the staff or management to enable them to create a welcoming atmosphere during each shift.
- Organizes staff schedules based on anticipated business levels while ensuring that all roles are filled as needed and labor cost targets are achieved.
- Assists in the recruitment and training of new team members by positively reinforcing successful performance and providing respectful and constructive coaching as necessary. Offers feedback to management regarding staff performance.
- Fosters a positive work environment by identifying shifts in staff morale and performance and communicating these observations to the assistant manager or ownership.
- Creates a supportive learning environment by delivering clear, specific, timely, and respectful coaching and feedback to team members during shifts to ensure operational excellence and enhance performance.
- Delivers outstanding customer service by maintaining a helpful attitude and positive demeanor while connecting with customers and addressing their needs.
- Builds strong relationships with team members by understanding and addressing their individual motivations, needs, and concerns.
- During shifts, directs team members to various workstations to minimize delays and maintain service efficiency. Consistently promotes a culture of speed in all tasks.
- Ensures that team members meet operational cleanliness and service standards.
- Oversees store operations during scheduled shifts. Organizes, assigns, and monitors all opening and closing duties of staff.
- Adheres to operational policies and procedures, including cash handling and safety protocols, to ensure the safety of all team members during each shift.
- Conducts bank runs as necessary to maintain appropriate cash levels at each location.
- Opens and closes the cafe as required.
- Follows all policies regarding waste management and employee purchases, ensuring compliance among staff.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
- Consistently provides quality beverages for all customers by adhering to recipe and presentation standards. Complies with health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
- Recognizes and celebrates individual and team achievements using existing organizational tools and collaborates with management to discover new, effective recognition methods.
- Utilizes operational tools to achieve excellence during shifts.
- Participates in all scheduled team and management meetings, offering suggestions for improvement.
- Assists fellow employees as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.
- Strong customer service orientation and experience.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a customer service role within a fast-paced restaurant, coffee shop, or bakery environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and Canva, with experience in creating documents and marketing materials being a plus.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership abilities with a focus on managing and motivating a team.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.
- $18-$20 per hour plus tips.
- Complimentary primary healthcare benefits.
- Paid Time Off, accruing 3 hours per payroll, redeemable after 28 weeks.
