Patient Safety Specialist

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Patient Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Quality and Safety Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Adverse Event Management
- Coordinate the day-to-day management of adverse events, including reviewing and analyzing reports, identifying sentinel events, and working with the Patient/Family Relations department on risk and patient safety issues.
- Manage the reporting of adverse events to regulatory agencies, including DPH and BRM, and coordinate unannounced hospital surveys by DPH.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk, collaborating with CRICO and hospital-based improvement teams on interventions.
- Identify, recommend, and independently manage innovative patient safety initiatives, including reviewing and developing hospital policies, participating in hospital patient safety initiatives, and directing improvement activities related to safety and quality vulnerabilities.
- Develop and implement analytic and measurement strategies for projects, including developing key metrics, identifying data sources, and collecting baseline data.
- Work with the Sr. Manager of Patient Safety and Risk to prepare regular presentations to the Board Quality Committee, Care Improvement Council, and other BWFH leadership and clinical groups.
- Participate in the orientation, training, and mentoring of department of quality and safety team members.
- Present the DQS department overview for site visits and other inter-departmental training sessions.
- Precept pharmacy students, medicine students, and medicine residents, as well as DQS fellows.

Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required.
- Degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, or similar/related clinical field is highly preferred.
- Prior experience working as a program manager or equivalent experience in quality measurement and/or improvement, patient safety, or risk management is highly preferred.
- Experience working in a large and complex healthcare organization or relevant clinical work experience is preferred.
- Computer and Internet skills and experience required, with familiarity and comfort with MS Office products.
- Superior organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
- Initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork.
- Sophisticated listening and negotiation skills with demonstrable experience in operating effectively in a complex environment.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for developing and implementing new programs.
- Demonstrated effectiveness as both a team member and team facilitator, with high degree of social facility in obtaining cooperation and support for a broad range of people.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, respect, and confidentiality.
- Data management and analysis skills.
- Ability to complete work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
- Comfortable interacting with a vast array of administrative and clinical staff.
