Job Overview

The role of the Lead Engineer in Preliminary Design (PD) is integral to the architecture and system-level engineering that drives the innovation of propulsion systems. This position focuses on the design and assessment of propulsion systems against critical metrics such as fuel efficiency, weight, cost, and longevity. The Lead Engineer will develop and analyze propulsion system cycle models, conducting evaluations to ensure compliance with key performance requirements. The responsibilities include exploring new engine architectures, integrating advanced technologies, and optimizing existing systems for new technical demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a pivotal member of the Aviation preliminary design engineering team, engaging in technology evaluation and performance modeling.
  • Construct, modify, and assess comprehensive engine architecture cycle models, as well as subsystem and component models, leveraging fundamental physics and empirical data.
  • Collaborate closely with expert design teams to accurately translate technical knowledge into effective architecture cycle models.
  • Enhance understanding of best practices and leverage past experiences to benefit the team.
  • Utilize analytical skills and technical expertise to propose innovative solutions that align with program objectives and meet essential requirements.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of assigned projects, ensuring adherence to business standards and product requirements.
  • Advise on strategies to fulfill technical and program specifications.
  • Develop and implement plans to meet technical goals, timelines, and contractual obligations.
  • Anticipate challenges and formulate action plans to address them.
  • Provide technical mentorship to colleagues and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for projects, in line with engineering policies.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, business challenges, and significant developments.
  • Lead or participate in organizational initiatives related to assigned projects.
  • Engage as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program evaluations.
Eligibility Criteria

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an aero-thermal or performance engineering role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 4 years of experience in aero-thermal or performance engineering.
  • Proficiency in engine performance data analysis, cycle model development, and evaluation of propulsion system performance.
  • Familiarity with NPSS and ESP performance design tools.
  • Experience collaborating with global cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to guide and influence team members.
  • Demonstrated process-oriented approach to work.
  • Knowledge of commercial engine design requirements.
  • Proven ability to document, plan, and manage programs that enhance business capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Systems thinking capability.
