Job Overview

The Manufacturing Process Engineer for Automotive is tasked with enhancing the production workflow of exhaust systems and spearheading new product development initiatives. This position demands a solid grasp of manufacturing methodologies, adept problem-solving skills, and expertise in SolidWorks. The successful candidate will be proactive, with a history of implementing process enhancements, reducing costs, and achieving successful product rollouts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Enhancement:
  • Design and execute streamlined manufacturing processes for exhaust systems, focusing on welding and automation.
  • Evaluate current processes to pinpoint inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform time and motion analyses to boost production effectiveness.
  • Adopt lean manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement strategies (Kaizen).
  • Assist in updating work instructions and process flows.
  • Design of Fixtures and Gauges:
  • Create and refine fixtures and gauges using SolidWorks to guarantee product quality and uniformity.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Design Engineering, and Maintenance teams to implement new fixtures and gauges.
  • Conduct validation tests for fixtures and gauges.
  • Welding and Automation Programming:
  • Develop and refine welding techniques to align with product specifications.
  • Program and troubleshoot robotic welding systems.
  • Work alongside welding and robotic operators to ensure efficient and high-quality production.
  • New Product Development (APQP):
  • Engage with Program Management for APQP tasks related to new exhaust system projects.
  • Formulate process FMEAs with the Manufacturing Engineering Team.
  • Develop and implement product launch strategies.
  • Support PPAP submissions and approvals.
  • Oversee product launch timelines and deliverables.
  • Issue Resolution:
  • Diagnose manufacturing challenges, particularly those related to welding and robotics, and execute corrective measures.
  • Conduct root cause analyses to identify and rectify process flaws.
  • Provide technical assistance to production staff.
  • Project Coordination:
  • Oversee multiple projects concurrently while adhering to deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Quality Management:
  • Monitor product quality and implement necessary corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain quality control protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive manufacturing.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks for the design of fixtures and gauges.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly welding and assembly.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Kaizen practices.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Experience with welding techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of robotic programming and operations.
  • Experience with APQP projects.
  • Familiarity with quality tools (FMEA, PPAP, SPC, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the manufacturing of exhaust systems.
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Proficient in automation and robotics.
