Role Overview:
The Product Engineer (PE) will collaborate with a Product Manager to effectively manage and expand their product line in a dynamic environment at AutomationDirect. The PE serves as the product subject matter expert, engaging with suppliers on all technical aspects of product development, evaluation, new product introduction, and ongoing support throughout the product life cycle. Key responsibilities include ownership of sensor and power supply components. The PE embodies a servant leadership approach and collaborates cross-functionally with both internal and external teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize your experience and product knowledge to select and assist in the development of optimal products that enhance the product line and fulfill customer requirements.
  • Maintain product ownership throughout its life cycle.
  • Evaluate and test new products and technologies.
  • Provide support for products during new product introductions, documentation, training, and second-tier backline support (limited to normal business hours).
  • Engage in life-cycle projects aimed at improving product quality or reducing costs.
  • Conduct supplier evaluations, including product offerings, technology roadmaps, support capabilities, and product packaging.
  • Some scheduled domestic and international travel may be necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Educational background in a technical discipline, preferably a BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience (10 years preferred) in the industrial control and automation market or OEM/manufacturing of sensor or power supply products. Experience in product application, control system integration, hands-on calibration, configuration, technical support, and/or product design involving sensors or power supplies is preferred. Similar experience in related fields such as building automation and medical equipment may be considered.
  • Familiarity with various sensing technologies (inductive, capacitive, photoelectric, ultrasonic, potentiometric, and magnetostrictive).
  • Experience with DC power supplies, redundancy modules, DC UPS, and electronic circuit protection.
  • Knowledge of industrial control products such as PLCs, HMIs, process instrumentation, or signaling is desirable.
  • Experience with agency approvals (UL, CSA, CE, RoHS, etc.) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc. is advantageous.
  • Strong self-confidence, organizational skills, time management skills, and excellent communication abilities are essential.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of independently managing projects, meeting deadlines, and possessing excellent interpersonal skills.
