We are seeking a highly skilled Accounts Payable Specialist to join our team at the City of Newberg, OR. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for managing accounts payable, payroll, and municipal services billing.
Key Responsibilities- Accumulate, calculate, post, balance, and reconcile data
- Provide accounting assistance to other departments
- Identify irregularities and research discrepancies
- Prepare utility, financial, statistical, and operational reports
- Assist with records management and retention
Match purchase orders and invoices for payment weekly, enter invoices into financial software, and disburse City funds upon approval. Maintain Account Payable electronic and physical files and back up payroll function in the absence of the Payroll Specialist.
Accounts ReceivableProcess cash receipting, maintain daily cash activities, balance to cash on hand against receipts, and prepare and balance accounts from departments. Assess and correct payment/deposit discrepancies with banks and departments.
Municipal Services BillingRead computer files or gather records such as meter readings, prepare routes for meter technicians, and process incoming payments. Post transactions to accounting records, process work orders for service disconnections, reconnections, new orders, leak adjustments, and other public works service requests.
Requirements- Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices
- Four (4) years of increasingly responsible position-related experience
- Working knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices
- Post-high school financial or accounting coursework
- Payroll experience
- Ability to work remotely as business needs dictate
