Job Summary:

The University of Washington is seeking a highly skilled Learning and Development Specialist to join our Housing and Food Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for improving and maintaining the quality, frequency, and efficacy of training for HFS employees.

This role will work collaboratively with human resources staff as well as functional unit leaders at all levels to identify needs for technical and developmental curriculum and assist in developing the most effective content and delivery methods for meeting those needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply an understanding of equity, antiracism, learning theory, adult learning principles, and universal design to all aspects of work.
  • Gain a thorough working knowledge of each functional unit to work alongside leaders to support the design, delivery, and assessment of effective technical and developmental training programs.
  • Engage departmental leaders at all levels regarding new programs, services, processes, and projects to ascertain the need for training and support the development and delivery of a training plan.
  • Work one-on-one with staff who have responsibility for training to apply standards and best practices in developing and delivering training; provide data-informed feedback based on assessment data.
  • Provide guidance on how and when training activities should be considered in response to certain issues/problems.
  • Develop standards for the development and delivery of training.
  • Provide learning opportunities for staff who have responsibility for training and others who desire to develop this competency.
  • Apply a blended approach of training delivery techniques including face-to-face, online, self-directed, coaching, experiential, etc.
  • Develop tools and resources (a 'self-serve' model) available to staff who have responsibility for training and others who desire to develop this competency.
  • Develop tools and resources (a 'self-serve' model) to support exploration of diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
  • Conduct an assessment to determine training efficacy and coordinate adjustments deemed necessary.
  • Develop reports, metrics, and systems for information sharing and analysis.
  • Work independently to write, edit, and develop informational materials.
  • Develop and conduct training as needed.
  • Work one-on-one with staff seeking performance improvement or professional development.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in education, human resources, or other related field.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in an office or academic setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
