Job Summary

The Boston Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and exceptional educational leader to serve as an Assistant Principal. This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires a strong commitment to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the supervision of all staff and assume the duties of the Principal when they are not on the premises.
  • Implement the Code of Discipline and maintain the safety and security of the building and grounds.
  • Supervise the arrival and departure of students and supervise their behavior in common areas.
  • Seek funding to enhance cultural and academic programs at the school.
  • Use data to guide academic goals and assist in the preparation of the Whole School Improvement document.
  • Assist the Principal in managerial duties, including:
    • Supervising maintenance of the building and grounds.
    • Coordinating purchases and delivery of supplies and equipment.
    • Supervising maintenance of personnel and student records.
    • Preparing reports and statistics of school operations.
    • Preparing and maintaining the master schedule within planning parameters established by the Principal.
  • Supervise substitute teachers, including arranging for coverage and ensuring that substitute folders are up to date and available for monitoring and evaluating performance.
  • Assist the Principal in planning activities, including coordinating curriculum, instruction, student, volunteer, and parent activities, and student support services.
  • Engage the wider community to support school goals.
  • Assume other related duties as requested by the Principal.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific).
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in an urban, K-12 educational setting.
  • Experience as a school administrator.
  • Experience in Grant writing and fundraising.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
  • Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
