With operations spanning over 150 communities in Massachusetts, Walker delivers evidence-based support to children and families through various modalities, including residential, educational, outpatient, home-based, and community programs.

Position Overview

The Walker School, a prestigious private institution dedicated to special education, is currently seeking a Special Education Instructor for its Needham Campus. This role involves leading a classroom of up to nine students, focusing on addressing social, emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges. The selected candidate will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, working under the guidance of the Assistant Principal/Principal and classroom supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to foster children's emotional, behavioral, and educational development.
  • Design and implement innovative study units that align with curriculum frameworks and academic standards.
  • Create customized lessons and instructional materials, establishing clear academic expectations for students.
  • Provide diverse learning opportunities tailored to students' existing knowledge to promote both academic and social growth.
  • Effectively document student progress through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and reports.
  • Maintain an engaging and supportive learning environment while managing student behavior effectively.
  • Implement childcare practices consistent with Walker's educational model.
  • Apply therapeutic strategies in accordance with individual treatment plans and support frameworks.
  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment that promotes overall student well-being.
  • Engage in administrative duties, including attending meetings, writing reports, and communicating with families.
  • Participate in supervision and professional development initiatives at Walker.
  • Lead classroom teams and encourage positive collaboration among staff.
  • Oversee assistant teachers and provide constructive feedback to enhance their professional growth.
  • Utilize a variety of assessments to monitor student progress and adapt instructional methods accordingly.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures established by Walker.
Qualifications:

Ideal candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree along with certification in Moderate Special Needs, K-8. New graduates are encouraged to consider this opportunity.
