Position Title: Health and Safety Manager

Role Summary:

The Health and Safety Manager (HSM) plays a crucial role in assisting the HSE Director in implementing health, safety, and environmental policies across corporate, program, and project levels. This position is pivotal in ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and fostering a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement project-specific safety plans, including Accident Prevention Plans and Health and Safety Plans.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential hazards to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment.
  • Conduct audits to evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Provide training on safety protocols and manage the learning management system for employee education.
  • Oversee the medical monitoring program and track employee participation.
  • Lead accident investigations, performing root cause analyses and generating comprehensive reports.
  • Monitor safety metrics and report key performance indicators to the HSE Director.
  • Serve as a resource for employees regarding health and safety inquiries.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in safety management within the environmental remediation or construction sectors.
  • Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is required.
  • Preferred certifications include Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards and ACGIH guidelines is essential.
  • Experience with USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual is advantageous.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficient in using technology for tracking and documentation.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.

Working Conditions:

The role requires maintaining professional certifications and participating in ongoing training to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The position involves a mix of office and fieldwork, necessitating adaptability to various environments.
