Senior Manager, Technical Accounting and Benefits

Job Summary

This role oversees all technical research and supports the business with new transactions and contracts. The position is responsible for all aspects of benefits accounting as well as other projects and responsibilities to help the Company succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager and Technical Accounting department.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal key players to become a trusted finance business partner.
  • Performs and/or reviews accounting research and evaluation of accounting issues, new business events, transactions, and contracts to assess their impact on the Company's financial statements.
  • Serves as the accounting subject matter expert for all accounting functions, including complex matters involving consolidation, leasing, revenue recognition, and regulatory accounting.
  • Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager in the accounting and reporting for all employee/retiree benefit plans, including annual audits and financial statement preparation.
  • Advises management on the accounting and financial impact of implementing proposed employee benefit strategies and oversees the accounting group's role in implementing those strategies.
  • Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager in the budget process for all major benefit costs and advises management on significant assumption changes and variances.
  • Monitors/reviews proposed and newly issued Accounting Standards, performs impact assessment, and implements the new accounting standards.
  • Oversees the process to update P&Ps with various P&P owners and develops and finalizes required P&Ps.
  • Reviews P&Ps issued by the Company's parent company to identify differences to existing P&Ps and identify P&Ps requiring update.
  • Manages and looks for continuous improvement in the Finance Department's Change Control program to identify and report change throughout the Company that may have an impact on the Company's financial statements.
  • Leads cross-functional initiatives to improve processes or procedures that impact the Finance department and other areas of the business.
  • Drafts and/or reviews recurring quarterly white papers.
  • Problem-solving/resolving accounting issues.
  • Assists with Regulatory Filings as necessary.
  • Other special projects as necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (or a related field) preferred.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ Years experience in accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Extensive experience with writing white papers and accounting research.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Energetic self-starter with excellent communication, presentation, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with inter-departmental teams at all levels of management.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the regulated energy industry preferred.
