About the Position:

The Accounting Technician role at Southern Oregon University involves utilizing bookkeeping skills to record, examine, and reconcile expenditure and revenue transactions. The ideal candidate will maintain accountability with statutory requirements, university policy, and general accounting principles and procedures. This position works within the Finance and Administration/Service Center department to provide essential business operational services support for the campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accounts Payable: Provide accurate services to assigned departments following university policy and procedure.
  • Procurement Cards: Ensure efficient services to departmental programs in compliance with policies.
  • Front Desk Office Coordination: Support front desk operations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned: Assist in various tasks to contribute to the smooth operation of the department.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 12 quarter hours of Accounting courses OR an Associates Degree in Accounting OR equivalent experience.
  • Transcripts must be provided for all related courses.
  • Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience using Workday ERP system or comparable database systems.
  • Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Essential Functions:
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment.
Physical Demands:
  • Normal office activities such as sitting/standing, using a computer, and communicating.
  • Ability to move/transport up to 25 pounds.
Special Conditions:
  • Willingness to travel for occasional professional development.
  • Requires willingness to work additional hours as needed.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
