Job Overview

This is a full-time position with a day shift schedule (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM).

General Summary


Under general supervision, this role is responsible for coordinating all administrative functions related to the Adult Stem Cell Transplant Program within the University of Maryland Medical System. This includes validating and appealing reimbursement coverage, organizing pre-hospitalization assessments, and ensuring comprehensive patient follow-up.

This position serves as a representative of the Stem Cell Transplant Program to patients, families, referring physicians, hospital personnel, and various local, state, and federal organizations.

Key Responsibilities


The following responsibilities outline the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this role. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties performed by personnel in this classification.

  • Facilitates the operations of the Stem Cell Transplant Program, acting as a vital resource for all healthcare team members.
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors the currency of standard operating procedures related to Stem Cell Transplant.
  • Manages a cohort of patients undergoing evaluation for stem cell transplant or cellular therapy, overseeing patient referrals, education, evaluations, and other management tasks within the Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communication with referring physicians and institutions to ensure the timely exchange of essential medical records, pathology slides, and diagnostic test results.
  • Collaborates with medical staff to communicate relevant information.
  • Implements procedures to guarantee appropriate financial coverage for Stem Cell Transplant patients in partnership with the BMT Financial Coordinator and Managed Care Department.
  • Maintains relationships with external donor registries and facilitates the collection of unrelated donor stem cells to ensure accurate billing for all hospital and physician services.
  • Responds to inquiries for data and information from the Managed Care Division regarding the stem cell transplant program.
