Position Overview

The Vice President for University Advancement (VP) plays a pivotal role in providing strategic direction and leadership for the university's advancement initiatives. Reporting directly to the president, the VP is responsible for overseeing fundraising efforts and alumni relations, collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance the university's mission and objectives. The primary goal is to secure financial and community support to further the university's academic and student-focused initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Support and advise the president in fundraising activities, helping to cultivate relationships with potential donors and securing significant contributions.
  • Assist senior leaders and faculty in development efforts, ensuring their engagement is meaningful and productive.

Program Development & Oversight

  • Evaluate the university's fundraising capabilities and develop a comprehensive strategy to enhance philanthropic support.
  • Establish a cohesive advancement program that reflects best practices in the industry.

Campaign Management

  • Lead the planning and execution of major fundraising campaigns, aligning proposals with institutional priorities.
  • Implement effective methodologies that integrate philanthropic and grant funding opportunities.

Community Engagement

  • Work with university leadership to create compelling messaging that highlights the university's strengths and aspirations.

Team Leadership

  • Foster a supportive and organized environment for the advancement team, setting clear goals and priorities.
  • Manage the advancement budget to ensure efficient use of resources in achieving fundraising objectives.

Qualifications

  • A strong commitment to the mission of the University of California.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and managing relationships with major donors.
  • Experience in building and leading a successful fundraising operation.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in fundraising and management.
  • Proven track record in planning and executing comprehensive fundraising campaigns.

Compensation

The anticipated compensation range for this role is $200K-$250K. The University of California offers a comprehensive benefits package to enhance the overall employment experience.
