Job Overview:


The Learning Systems Administrator is responsible for the daily support and management of educational technologies, which include the Learning Management System (LMS), EZproxy, and Turnitin. This role acts as the primary liaison for resolving Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical issues faced by faculty, staff, and students, collaborating with vendor support as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

LMS Management:


Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar and Software Developer to oversee the integration of the LMS with the Student Information System (SIS). Address term-related challenges such as missing courses and enrollments in conjunction with the Senior Associate Registrar.
Engage with institutional stakeholders to incorporate new technologies into the LMS, providing necessary technical support and troubleshooting assistance.

Assist instructors and teaching assistants in implementing and maintaining non-English courses within the LMS, including languages such as German, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish.
Manage the addition of special users to the LMS, including Teaching Assistants and Visiting Scholars.
Create and maintain course shells and enrollments outside of standard terms, such as those for organizations and departments.
Collect best practices and insights from fellow LMS administrators through community forums and listservs.
Archive and remove courses from the LMS as required to comply with space management policies.
Post institutional updates and announcements in the LMS as requested.
Generate customized reports utilizing LMS data, including information from the Canvas Data Portal.

Maintain and utilize the LMS testing environment to evaluate the impact of new technologies on campus operations.
Act as an escalation contact for support issues.

EZproxy Oversight:
Work alongside the Digital Resources Librarian to ensure faculty, staff, and student access to online subscription databases through EZproxy.

Configure and maintain subscription database stanzas for EZproxy, collaborating with database vendors as needed.
Serve as an escalation contact for support issues.

Turnitin Administration:
Manage the institution's Turnitin account via the online dashboard.
Provide specialized assistance to faculty regarding Turnitin, including course duration limits and roster synchronization.
Act as an escalation contact for support issues.

Additional Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development and implementation of academic technology policies and standards.
Perform upgrades and apply patches to academic technology applications as necessary.
Administer and troubleshoot academic servers, including Microsoft Windows servers that host educational technologies.
Renew annual security certificates for LMS, EZproxy, and other relevant servers.
Create and maintain documentation for faculty, staff, and students as needed.
Offer one-on-one training for faculty, staff, and students on the use of academic tools.
Regularly monitor Microsoft Server, LMS, and SIS Integration logs for operational issues.
Migrate technical processes from legacy systems to newer technology solutions.
Stay informed about current and emerging academic technologies through continuous learning opportunities.
As a member of Campus Technology, may be assigned additional responsibilities and projects as required.
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Perform other related duties as assigned based on specific responsibilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Certifications related to LMS and other academic technologies.
Proficiency in cURL, HTML, and CSS.
Ability to utilize Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL).
Capability to write and maintain technical documentation.
Ability to communicate technical concepts in accessible terms.
Basic understanding of instructional design principles and practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to customer service.
Excellent organizational abilities.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred.
Extensive experience in change management, particularly within an Information Technology context.
Experience in administering and troubleshooting Windows servers, including updates and security certificate management.
Experience in managing and troubleshooting LMS environments, including SIS integration and LTI applications.

Experience managing an institution-wide Turnitin account, including online dashboard modifications and issue escalation.

Experience administering an EZproxy server, including server upgrades and subscription stanza management.
Familiarity with Microsoft SQL (Structured Query Language).
Successful completion of background checks may be required.
Physical capabilities include manual dexterity for operating a keyboard and mouse, as well as the ability to perform various physical tasks as needed.
Regular communication is required in this role.
