Position Overview:


The Youth Behavioral Consultant plays a crucial role in delivering intervention strategies to participants and their families, aiming for constructive behavioral transformations in young individuals.

This role involves modeling, advising, and mentoring staff, children, and families in the realm of social-emotional development. The consultant also provides expert assistance to staff as they enhance their understanding and skills in implementing social-emotional learning principles. This is a position funded through grants.

This position supports early childhood programs catering to children aged three years to pre-kindergarten in designated counties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and assist educators in executing behavioral strategies tailored for individual children.
  • Integrate support and education for social-emotional development for all participants and staff.
  • Engage with families regarding behavioral strategies, providing updates, feedback, and home-based resources in collaboration with the Mental Health Coordinator.
  • Conduct site visits to observe interactions and activities with participants, discussing insights and recommendations with staff to offer on-site coaching and professional growth.
  • Provide guidance and assistance for child referrals to the Mental Health Coordinator.
  • Foster the emotional growth of children, participants, staff, and caregivers by offering coaching and information on social-emotional wellness.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding participant records and family matters.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with community behavioral health and mental health organizations.
  • Participate in individualized family meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Verify that program standards are upheld and safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Operate within and strive to exceed budgetary/projected guidelines.
  • Provide reports as directed by the supervisor, including documentation and data collection related to primary activities and funding accountability.
  • All youth development staff are mandated by state regulations to report any suspected child abuse or neglect and must inform appropriate personnel of any suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, required repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in family and child development, counseling, social work, or a related human services field.
  • Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of three years' experience working with youth with special needs, preferably in early childhood settings.
  • Strong understanding of developmental stages and appropriateness.
  • Preferably two years' experience as an educational trainer or instructional coach.
  • Preferably two years' experience in case management.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perspectives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to build rapport with children, families, and staff.
  • Capable of making independent and sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Must exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Reliable transportation is required, as travel within the designated area to support programs is necessary.
