About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic attorney to join our senior leadership team as General Counsel, responsible for leading all legal matters for our company.

The ideal candidate will have extensive transactional experience, with significant experience in real-estate related matters, and a willingness to tackle a wide range of legal and strategic issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive legal counsel and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and senior executive team on all legal matters, including real estate transactions, acquisitions, dispositions, development, construction, financing, and leasing.
  • Develop and implement a strategic legal risk management program.
  • Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and review of complex legal documents, such as purchase and sale agreements, leases, joint venture agreements, loan documents, corporate organizational documents, and construction contracts.
  • Grow and manage a network of outside counsel relationships; supervise outside counsel to ensure cost-effective management of legal resources.
  • Lead the in-house legal team and ensure efficient delivery of in-house legal services.
  • Stay up to date on current legal developments impacting the real estate industry and the company's operations.
  • In coordination with outside counsel, oversee and manage disputes and litigation.
Requirements
  • Minimum 6 years of legal experience in a leading real estate company or law firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of real estate law and transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, development, financing, and leasing.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Show initiative, high energy, and a desire to succeed, while demonstrating enthusiasm and passion to engage with employees throughout the organization.
  • Willingness to bring a sense of service and stewardship to the role for the benefit of the company and real estate portfolio.
  • Strong business acumen, a strategic mindset, and desire to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and legal writing skills.
  • Superb organizational and time management skills with the ability to provide leadership, supervision, and training for employees.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bar admission in the State of California.
