We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to join our team at the City of Norfolk, Department of Utilities. As a Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city utilities, including digging and refilling trenches, making minor repairs to underground water service lines, maintaining lawns, cutting asphalt and concrete, and loading, unloading, lifting, and carrying tools and equipment.
**Responsibilities:**
* Perform maintenance and repair tasks on city utilities, including water, sewer, and stormwater systems
* Dig and refill trenches and other excavations
* Make minor repairs to underground water service lines
* Maintain lawns and other outdoor areas
* Cut asphalt and concrete
* Load, unload, lift, and carry tools and equipment
**Requirements:**
* Ability to read and understand written instructions
* Ability to understand simple processes and routine operation of machines
* Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency
