Job Summary

At Cook County Health & Hospitals System, we are seeking a highly skilled Certified Health Information Management Technician to join our team. As a key member of our health information management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient medical records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze medical records for required content, signatures, and documentation to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Verify the quality of health information, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper entry into Electronic Health Record systems.
  • Use computer applications to assemble and analyze patient data to improve patient care and control costs.
  • Maintain physician deficiency/delinquent reports for incomplete documentation, coding, and reimbursement.
  • Process and compile statistics for delinquency reporting.
  • Maintain transcription interfaces and corrections of errors to prevent loss report interfaces.
  • Review daily discharged, not final billed (DNFB) bill hold report to ensure timely filing for insurance payer accounts.
  • Generate and verify the accuracy of reports as requested and required.
  • Pick up medical record documents from hospital units/floors and transport to be scanned and included in electronic health records.
  • Pick up Medical Record documents from clinical areas in Correctional environment.
  • Adhere to Department of Corrections rules and regulations.
  • Follow record retention guidelines and prepare records and scanned documents for destruction.
  • Assist with record retention record purging.
  • Maintain online continuity of care referral documents to support Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Maintain demographic corrections, such as name, date of birth, address, and social security numbers.
  • Maintain merges of duplicate medical record numbers.
  • Maintain Cerner Physician document refusal pool.
  • Maintain patient portal requests for protected health information.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Administration from an accredited college or university.
  • Credentialed by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  • Two (2) years of experience in Health Information Management.
  • Prior experience using and understanding Medical Terminology.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record systems.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience utilizing Cerner Electronic Health Record.
