Position Summary

The Adult Services Information Consultant is responsible for delivering reference and advisory services to library patrons while assisting staff in managing collections and facilitating programs. This role involves aiding library users in navigating both digital and print resources, as well as promoting library offerings, programs, and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes a diverse range of resources, including print, electronic, and online tools, to access and provide information.
  • Offers leadership, training, and support to staff and the public in the realm of Adult and Teen Services.
  • Stays informed about adult and teen literature, relevant technologies, and library trends. Provides reference and advisory assistance to patrons, including topical research and material location through various communication channels.
  • Assists in the presentation of library programs and may lead these initiatives.
  • Creates and organizes displays of public information, bulletin boards, books, and other library materials.
  • May manage, track, and report on Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests and serve as the contact for ILL services.
  • May occasionally take on the role of Person In Charge (PIC), providing support for staff, patrons, and facility-related matters.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and IT to enhance content and promote services relevant to teen engagement on the library's website and associated social media platforms.
  • Assists librarians with collection management, including selecting and evaluating materials for replacement, repair, or withdrawal.
  • Prepares reports and statistics for review as needed.
  • Participates in conducting library tours and outreach activities as required, representing the library at community events.
  • May supervise volunteers.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves minor computer hardware and software issues.
  • Engages in professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Proficient in relevant software to access information, respond to inquiries, and complete daily tasks; familiar with database applications.
  • Ability to effectively provide reference assistance and instructional services.
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of leading programs and delivering presentations.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, effectively engaging with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or a minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Communicates with staff and patrons in person and over the phone.
  • May require remaining in a stationary position or moving about for extended periods.
  • May involve moving equipment or library materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation for attending meetings and performing work in various locations.
