Position Overview

The Clinical Team Lead for Respiratory Therapy plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality respiratory care within the assigned unit or department. This position serves as the primary resource for staff and healthcare providers, addressing clinical concerns and providing guidance on respiratory therapy practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and execute all responsibilities of the Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner and ECMO specialist.
  • Act as a clinical expert and resource for RT staff regarding operational and clinical inquiries.
  • Utilize strong analytical skills to make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks and proactively resolve issues to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Guide and supervise assessments to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate expertise in respiratory therapy technologies within the department.
  • Coordinate emergency response protocols.
  • Assist in the development and revision of clinical care policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate and enhance patient care plans.
  • Engage with medical staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical management and engineering teams to maintain equipment functionality.
  • Document and report any equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and skill sets for patient care.

Leadership and Management

  • Establish performance expectations and professional development goals for team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for staff.
  • Participate in hiring and termination processes.
  • Monitor and report incidents related to patient care and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and clinical guidelines.
  • Oversee adherence to ventilator protocols.
  • Implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage shift assignments and staff redirection as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Provide feedback on scheduling and assignments.
  • Coordinate departmental improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate daily operations to RT leadership.

Education and Mentorship

  • Facilitate orientation and training for new staff and external partners.
  • Assess and ensure the competency and safety of respiratory care staff.
  • Plan and deliver educational sessions.
  • Effectively communicate updates to policies and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate evaluations of products and equipment.
  • Provide input on departmental equipment selection.
  • Assist with clinical research projects within the department.
  • Participate in departmental committees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, Healthcare, Business, or a related field is required.
  • Five years of experience in clinical respiratory therapy, with a minimum of three years in intensive care settings; supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Current RT licensure from the North Carolina State Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of respiratory therapy principles and practices.
  • Ability to assess and address the respiratory needs of patients.
  • Strong collaborative skills and resourcefulness.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Proficient in using technology and software relevant to clinical care.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with patient care.
