Position Overview

The Clinical Team Lead for Respiratory Therapy plays a pivotal role in collaborating with the leadership team within the assigned unit or department. This position is designed to ensure that all clinical operations are executed efficiently and effectively. The Clinical Lead serves as the primary resource for staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers regarding respiratory therapy-specific clinical matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform the responsibilities of a Respiratory Care Practitioner Advanced and ECMO specialist.
  • Act as a clinical resource for RT staff, addressing all operational and clinical inquiries.
  • Exhibit strong analytical skills to make informed decisions in critical situations.
  • Prioritize both anticipated and unexpected events, proactively resolving issues to enhance patient care.
  • Instruct and supervise assessments to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.
  • Maintain expertise in all respiratory therapy technologies utilized in the department.
  • Coordinate emergency response protocols effectively.
  • Assist in the formulation and revision of clinical care protocols and policies.
  • Evaluate and enhance patient care plans.
  • Engage with medical staff at a high level to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Serve as a liaison between Clinical Resource Management and Clinical Engineering for equipment service and operation.
  • Document and report any equipment malfunctions or issues.
  • Ensure a safe and conducive working environment.
  • Assess staffing levels and competencies for each patient care area.

Leadership and Management

  • Establish performance expectations and professional development goals for team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for all staff.
  • Participate in hiring and termination processes.
  • Monitor and report incidents related to patient care, safety, and employee conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.
  • Supervise adherence to ventilator protocols.
  • Implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Plan and assign shifts and responsibilities for staff.
  • Manage supply inventory effectively.
  • Provide constructive feedback on scheduling.
  • Coordinate departmental improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate daily operational updates to RT leadership.

Education and Mentorship

  • Facilitate orientation and training for both internal and external personnel.
  • Assess and ensure competency and safety of respiratory care staff.
  • Plan and conduct educational sessions.
  • Effectively communicate updates in policies and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate evaluations of respiratory products and equipment.
  • Provide input on departmental equipment selection.
  • Assist with clinical research initiatives within the department.
  • Participate in departmental committees as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, Healthcare, Business, or a related field is required.
  • Five years of clinical experience in respiratory therapy, with a minimum of three years in intensive care settings; supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Current RT licensure from the North Carolina State Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy practices and procedures.
  • Ability to assess the respiratory needs of patients and their families.
  • Proficient in collaborative work and resource utilization.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Competent in teaching patients and families according to care plans.
  • Ability to document and manage patient care activities accurately.
  • Proficient in computer usage and software applications.
  • Physical capability to perform job functions, including lifting and moving equipment.
