POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that all building structures and related components are maintained in optimal condition. This role involves assessing the need for repairs or modifications and supporting the overall functionality and upkeep of the facility. The technician will engage in various maintenance tasks as directed, utilizing carpentry skills and tools to construct, modify, repair, and install essential elements such as walls, stairs, floors, ceilings, windows, and doors. Regular inspections will be conducted to identify repair needs, and the technician will create sketches or layouts for the required work.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct repairs, replacements, and modifications on building components, including doors, locks, cabinetry, and flooring.
  • Inspect facilities to determine necessary carpentry repairs or alterations, estimating the duration and costs involved.
  • Prepare and interpret sketches, blueprints, and work layouts for various projects.
  • Perform structural repairs and enhancements, including ceiling modifications and surface preparations for painting or cement work.
  • Engage in related tasks such as framing, crafting signs, and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with museum staff and management to address emergencies and coordinate project schedules.
  • Operate lifts and set up staging to ensure safe access for maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to emergency situations that may pose risks to the safety of staff and visitors, following established emergency protocols.


WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.


REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Reports to the Facilities Manager.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in carpentry or building maintenance.
  • Proficiency in using power tools and small handheld tools.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capability to work independently and interpret technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Work Order Systems is a plus.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods.


COMPENSATION:

This is a non-exempt position, compensated at an hourly rate.
