Position Overview:
The Certified Peer Support Advocate will deliver individualized peer support to those requiring assistance in Waukesha County. This role involves connecting individuals with community resources and guiding them through the available options, while also providing encouragement and strength-based support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in outreach efforts to promote peer support services, targeting individuals in Waukesha County who currently lack access to such resources.
  • Offer personalized peer support services to residents of Waukesha County.
  • Assist clients in identifying their goals and priorities through a comprehensive Needs Assessment, ensuring they receive the necessary support throughout their program involvement.
  • Conduct a strength-based evaluation of each individual's capabilities, strengths, and resources from a recovery-oriented perspective.
  • Empower individuals to take ownership of their lived experiences, fostering their voice and choice in service participation to enhance their recovery journey.
  • Guide clients in navigating the healthcare system and encourage effective communication with other service providers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case files in accordance with agency policies, government regulations, and relevant local, state, and federal laws. This includes completing initial and ongoing Needs Assessments and progress notes for each client interaction, as well as fulfilling all reporting obligations as required by funding sources.
  • Collaborate with clients' collateral contacts and community resources to ensure continuity of care, with appropriate consent.
  • Support clients in their stabilization and recovery processes.
  • Conduct outreach to local businesses to enhance understanding and utilization of peer support services through educational presentations.
  • Participate in staff meetings and weekly supervision sessions.
  • Engage in required in-service training and professional development opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other job-related tasks as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Maintain Peer Support State Certification; possess knowledge of the Wisconsin Criminal Justice System; familiarity with local treatment programs and community resources, including housing, education, and public transportation; understanding of the Circuit Court Access Program (CCAP); strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to respond effectively in crisis situations; sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and disability issues; proficient organizational, computer, and typing skills; sound judgment; effective time management; must complete all required Evidence-Based Principles training, including mandated reporter training, within 90 days of hire and adhere to agency fidelity models.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED/HSED required; completion of state Certified Peer Specialist training.
  • Current Certified Peer Specialist certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Personal experience with mental health and substance use challenges, along with knowledge of recovery principles.
  • Meet all Wisconsin Community Services and contractor requirements for background checks, driving records, and references.
  • Valid driver's license, automobile, and adequate insurance to meet agency standards preferred.

Work Relationships and Scope:
This position involves interaction with a diverse range of individuals, including probation agents, case managers, therapists, families, and community resources.

Personal Attributes: Adhere to the agency's Code of Conduct; comply with established policies and procedures of the agency and all funding sources; conduct oneself ethically; maintain professional and respectful relationships with program staff, other Wisconsin Community Services personnel, individuals receiving services, and all external parties involved in service delivery; demonstrate sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and disability needs; show commitment to the agency's values and mission.

Working Conditions:
This role involves a combination of desk work and community engagement; a standard workweek of 40 hours; flexible scheduling may include evenings and weekends to accommodate program needs.

Physical Demands:
