Your role will involve supporting our patients by:

  • Preparing and rooming patients for examinations by taking vital signs and collecting relevant health information (e.g., chief complaint, allergies, medications).
  • Conducting laboratory tests (e.g., strep tests, wound cultures, specimen collections) while adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Assisting Physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy.
  • Administering routine medications under the guidance of Physicians/APCs, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
  • Coordinating necessary procedures or tests, pre-approved care algorithms, and referrals to other services, while effectively communicating with patients.
  • Collaborating with Physicians/APCs and other healthcare team members to ensure efficient clinic operations and providing timely information to patients.
  • Performing various clinical support tasks based on specialty competencies, such as suture removal, phlebotomy, EKG, and spirometry, under clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles across the lifespan.

Licenses & Certifications:

Medical Assistant:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 45 days unless otherwise determined by the department leader.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Medical Assistant:

  • GED or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or two years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last five years.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to perform both routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrating competency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including keyboarding, navigating a Windows operating system, and using electronic medical records systems.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills that foster a positive patient experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds independently; for heavier lifts, patient handling equipment is to be used with assistance from another team member when available.
  • Unique patient lifting and movement situations will be assessed individually.
  • Must possess functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with the ability to perform fine motor skills.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids is frequent; protective clothing and equipment will be required as necessary.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform job functions.
