We are seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer to join our team at SpaceX, where you will contribute to the development of our Starlink broadband internet system. As a member of our team, you will design, build, and operate software systems that manage thousands of satellites in low-earth orbit, providing fast and reliable internet connectivity to millions of users worldwide. Your primary focus will be on developing mission-critical systems that ensure safe navigation of our spacecraft constellation, including collision avoidance, maneuver coordination, and orbital prediction tools.

Job Description:
  • Design, develop, and deploy highly available and reliable software systems for managing thousands of satellites in low-earth orbit.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate satellite information into actionable decisions for launch times, satellite trajectory planning, deconfliction, and deorbit decisions.
  • Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews to ensure high-quality software development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline and +1 year of professional experience in software development; OR 3+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with Python, relational databases (PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, or similar), and distributed systems or large-scale consumer internet systems.
  • Prior experience with containerization technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and understanding of version control, testing, continuous integration, build, deployment, and monitoring.
