The Head of Athletic Medicine is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive sports medicine program, which encompasses injury prevention strategies, assessments, management, treatment, rehabilitation, educational initiatives, and counseling for student-athletes. This role reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development of the sports medicine program and manage the operations of the athletic training facility, including the coordination of athletic trainers and providing guidance and training to the team of trainers, interns, or students.
  • Conduct screenings, prevention measures, and care for sports-related injuries and conditions.
  • Deliver direct athletic training coverage during practices and competitions, including evening and weekend events as required.
  • Ensure safety during athletic events by identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
  • Assist injured athletes with the completion and submission of insurance claims as necessary.
  • Engage in recruitment efforts relevant to the operational area.
  • Effectively manage, prioritize, and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exhibit professional conduct in alignment with ethical standards and institutional guidelines.
  • Be prepared to undertake additional duties that are logically associated with the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to comprehend and apply concepts from training programs, conferences, and professional literature.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to various environmental elements, including extreme temperatures and noise.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to assess therapeutic needs for student-athletes and adapt therapeutic and protective equipment accordingly.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on attention to detail and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with educational technology platforms.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours as needed.
  • Physical demands include the ability to handle objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Adherence to all regulations set forth by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
  • Certification as an Athletic Trainer from the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida license from the Florida Board of Athletic Trainers.
  • Current CPR and AED certification.
