We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team at the Recanti/Miller Transplant Institute. As a Medical Assistant II, you will provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, performing patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clinical support to physicians and surgeons, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow, and accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms.
- Assist with patient care duties, such as taking vital signs, relaying instructions to patients and families, and answering calls.
- Perform clerical duties, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.
- Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
- Provide set-up of examination rooms and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
- Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, or others as needed.
- Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately according to institution policy.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations.
- Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, Op Reports, test results, and home care forms.
- May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients, preparing charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
- May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
- May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients, as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information.
- May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
- May check and verify & update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
- May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
- Provide training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.
- Direct and assign MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes.
- Oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet the needs of each physician.
- High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- For in-house candidates, promotion to Level II is contingent upon consistent E or S annual performance appraisals.
Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
BCLS certification - Required Issuing Authority: AHA.
