Role Responsibilities:

The Head of Counseling and Crisis Support Services will oversee both the hotline and counseling initiatives. This role includes training and supervising the Counseling department, which provides individual and group therapy to adult victims of domestic and sexual violence involved in our programs, as well as to children in community-based housing affected by such violence.

In addition to managing the counseling team, the Head will oversee the hotline program, which assesses eligibility for shelter services. Individuals seeking assistance are often escaping life-threatening situations related to domestic or sexual violence and may have experienced significant trauma. The hotline staff are tasked with conducting thorough, trauma-informed assessments to facilitate shelter entry.

Key Contributions:

  • Ensure that services provided to clients are trauma-informed and culturally sensitive for adult victims of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Offer guidance, oversight, and training on best practices and operational procedures.
  • Stay informed about best practices related to domestic violence, relationship dynamics, and trauma responses.
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations.
  • Develop and manage systems to ensure compliance with company policies and relevant state or federal regulations regarding record-keeping.
  • Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure timely access to necessary services for clients.
  • Represent the hotline and counseling programs to community partners and stakeholders.
  • Embody the core values of Shelter House: collaboration, accountability, respect, and empowerment.
  • Utilize Microsoft applications (email, Teams, SharePoint, etc.) effectively in daily operations.
  • Perform additional duties as required for optimal program functionality.

Counseling Program Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical supervision and support to the Counseling Program Manager.
  • Coordinate care and consult with the Case Management team to enhance client engagement in developing effective housing plans.
  • Assist the team in making appropriate referrals to long-term mental health services and other community resources as necessary.
  • Maintain required licensure and credentials for independent clinical service provision.

Hotline Program Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the hotline program and collaborate with the Director of Data Analytics to ensure accurate data tracking and reporting.
  • Ensure hotline calls are answered with empathy and in alignment with best practices and agency policies.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to hotline staff, ensuring they are informed about standards and updated practices.
  • Supervise the Hotline Program Manager and collaborate on ongoing assessments of hotline operations.
  • Review hotline calls to ensure adherence to best practices and criteria.
  • Provide backup support to the hotline as needed.
  • Build relationships with community partners to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to uphold professional ethics and maintain client confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and make informed decisions.
  • Aptitude for completing tasks amidst frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Preferred:

  • Licensed in Virginia as an LCSW, LCP, or LMFT, with the ability to provide clinical supervision; must have personal insurance.
  • Experience working with individuals and families, utilizing various therapeutic modalities effective for adults.
  • Experience with clients who have experienced trauma, particularly victims of domestic violence.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Annual TB Test is required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds.
