Role Responsibilities

Grade Level: K-5

The role of the Educational Associate involves:

  • Observing and learning from Lead Teachers
  • Co-teaching alongside Lead Teachers
  • Providing substitute teaching coverage as needed
  • Supporting Lead Teachers with tutoring, grading, and individualized or small group instruction
Key DutiesCurriculum Development and Instruction
  • Implementing a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and evaluating student progress
  • Designing academically challenging lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments
  • Utilizing data to guide instructional choices
  • Offering daily feedback to students on their academic and character development
  • Exhibiting strong pedagogical practices
Commitment to School Culture
  • Collaborating effectively with school teams and across the KIPP network
  • Contributing to a school-wide culture that meets the diverse needs of students, teachers, and families
  • Participating in all staff meetings and maintaining open communication with colleagues
  • Building positive relationships with students
  • Creating a supportive and calm learning atmosphere
  • Upholding and modeling the school's values and student management policies
Family Engagement
  • Maintaining strong communication with parents regarding student progress
  • Being present at open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and other family-oriented events
  • Making oneself available to students, parents, and staff
Professional Growth
  • Setting and pursuing challenging professional goals annually
  • Welcoming constructive feedback from colleagues to foster a collaborative work environment
  • Engaging in school-wide and individual professional development opportunities
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required
  • Valid NYS Teaching Licensure or a commitment to pursue state certification is required
  • Prior experience in an educational setting, particularly in charter or public schools, is preferred
  • Experience in urban educational environments is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours is essential
  • Aptitude for fostering an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds and perspectives
