Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including taking medical histories, recording vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests
  • Take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and promote patient/family understanding of educational content and their involvement in the plan of care
  • Document patient records, dispose of contaminated supplies, and perform instrument processing, high-level disinfection, and sterilization of medical instruments
  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by physicians
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, check out patients, and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Update and file patient medical records, fill out forms, handle billing and bookkeeping, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms
  • Perform other administrative duties as directed, including serving as a liaison for clinic activities and participating in clinic committees
Requirements
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required
  • BLS required
  • High school or GED graduation required
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting (depending on level of certification)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinical staff
