As a Quality Assurance Consultant in Underwriting, you will evaluate the most intricate policies within designated lines of business, employing curiosity to comprehend and suggest optimal actions for individual and collective policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the most complex tasks performed within commercial lines against established quality benchmarks, regulations, and desired business outcomes. Utilize analytical skills to discern the best course of action based on specific scenarios.
  • Provide recommendations for enhancements in policies, practices, and procedures. Identify action items for widespread improvement through trend analysis.
  • Engage actively in discussions regarding guideline interpretation to ensure uniformity and calibration across the team. Facilitate calibration discussions and oversee the resolution and follow-up of issues.
  • Establish strong relationships, trust, and credibility with business partners and colleagues. Proactively reach out to strengthen connections and identify needs.
  • Manage your own workload and may oversee the work of others based on project, team, and business unit objectives.
  • Create ad hoc reports to identify issues and trends or to address complex or previously unrecognized challenges.
  • Communicate effectively using the most suitable methods based on the situation and complexity.
  • Participate in projects and lead segments of larger initiatives.
  • Adhere to established processes and apply judgment in situations where guidelines may be ambiguous or absent.
  • Build a reputation as a reliable source and subject matter expert, ensuring the credibility of your recommendations.
  • Engage in necessary training and remain updated with technology and knowledge pertinent to fulfilling role expectations.
  • May undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Structure:
Reports to Manager or Director. This position operates as an individual contributor.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • License/Certification: AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations are preferred.
  • Experience: Typically, a minimum of ten years in general commercial lines experience, including three years of technical experience (Claims, Underwriting, etc.) is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:
Possesses a solid understanding of commercial lines operations and adeptness in conflict resolution. Familiarity with commercial business unit practices, including company products, expectations, and overall growth objectives. Comprehensive knowledge of company systems, commercial insurance coverages, and relevant state statutes and regulations. Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities. Excellent judgment in decision-making. Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Ability to utilize personal computers with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Environment:
Normal office environment with potential for non-standard or extended hours and occasional travel as required.
