Position Overview: This role is pivotal in offering expert guidance to the designated organization in the underwriting and technical execution of its operations to meet targeted profit and growth goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic guidance to Commercial Lines management and underwriters regarding risk assessment, pricing strategies, and underwriting of complex risks, portfolios, and/or products within your area of expertise.
- Translate Commercial Lines underwriting objectives into actionable plans, ensuring collaborative implementation and execution across underwriting teams.
- Continuously refine Property/Casualty growth strategies, policies, guidelines, processes, and pricing. This role is accountable for the top-line growth and loss ratio performance of assigned product areas.
- Identify opportunities for profitable growth. Collaborate with the Chief Underwriter and underwriting leadership to develop underwriting and product strategies that leverage growth opportunities and enhance profitability.
- Monitor business line performance proactively, responding swiftly and effectively to growth and profitability challenges.
- Act as the technical authority and referral underwriter for specific Casualty and Property products, providing insights to the product group on underwriting requirements for systems that impact the underwriting process and outcomes.
- Design and deliver technical training programs to address skill gaps and ensure that the expertise of underwriters and underwriting leadership aligns with business needs.
- Develop and implement a multi-year growth, underwriting, and product strategy for all assigned product lines, ensuring underwriting practices are consistent with these strategies.
- In collaboration with the Actuarial team, implement pricing models and monitor performance against these models, ensuring that underwriting actions are aligned with pricing strategies by evaluating metrics at individual, territory, state, and national levels. Share insights and recommendations with Underwriting leadership regularly.
- Lead underwriting technical audits and quality assurance reviews to assess the quality of risk selection, pricing, and adherence to company policies.
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is required. A minimum of ten years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or product management, particularly with larger brokers and agents, is essential. Strong communication, negotiation, training, and analytical skills are necessary. Management experience is advantageous.
