Job Title: Controller

We are seeking a seasoned financial leader to join our team as a Controller. This role is ideal for a financial expert with hands-on experience in the construction industry.

About the Opportunity:

We are a growing construction company known for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. As our Controller, you will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the company, with a focus on ensuring project profitability and compliance with construction industry-specific accounting standards.

Job Overview:

As the Controller, you will oversee all financial operations, including job costing, WIP schedules, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger. You will also prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a focus on construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans, ensuring accuracy in project cost tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, construction accounting standards, and other relevant regulations.
  • Lead the annual audit process and collaborate with external auditors.
  • Provide financial analysis on job profitability, cash flow management, and risk mitigation.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls specific to construction projects to safeguard company assets.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to optimize performance.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred not required).
  • Construction industry experience is required, including knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and WIP.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and construction-specific financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software (experience with Sage & Procore is a plus).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and financial analysis skills.
