Job Description

As a Construction Estimator at Michael Page, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our construction projects. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze project requirements, estimate costs, and prepare bids and proposals for potential projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Analysis: Review project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to understand the scope of work, materials needed, and labor requirements.
  • Cost Estimation: Use specialized software and historical data to calculate the cost of materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses required for a construction project.
  • Bid and Proposal Preparation: Generate accurate and competitive bids or proposals for potential projects based on the estimated costs and project requirements.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Relations: Obtain quotes and negotiate prices with suppliers, subcontractors, and other vendors to secure the best pricing for materials and services.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate potential risks and uncertainties associated with the project that could affect costs or timelines.
  • Value Engineering: Identify opportunities to reduce costs or improve efficiency without sacrificing quality through value engineering techniques.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate cost estimates and smooth project execution.
  • Cost Tracking and Reporting: Monitor project costs throughout the construction process and provide regular reports to management or clients to track budgetary performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, construction methods, and material prices to continuously improve the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimation processes.
  • Compliance: Ensure that cost estimates and proposals comply with relevant regulations, codes, and industry standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bids, contracts, and other project-related documentation.
  • Client Communication: Communicate effectively with clients to address questions, concerns, and changes in project requirements.
Requirements:
  • 2-5 Years of Experience: Proven experience in construction estimation, cost analysis, or a related field.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous review of project specifications, blueprints, and other documents to accurately assess the materials, labor, and other resources required for a project.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with estimating software and familiarity with construction materials, methods, and costs are essential for generating accurate estimates.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to assess project requirements, identify potential risks and uncertainties, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for collaborating with project stakeholders, negotiating prices with suppliers and subcontractors, and presenting estimates to clients or management.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to address challenges that arise during the estimation process and find cost-effective solutions.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time efficiently to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Industry Knowledge: Staying updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices is important for producing accurate estimates and maintaining competitiveness in the market.
  • Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial principles and ability to assess the financial feasibility of construction projects.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills and ability to secure favorable terms with vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Integrity: Ethical conduct and integrity are essential for building trust with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders and ensuring that estimates are fair and accurate.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changes in project requirements, market conditions, and other factors that may impact the estimation process.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to continuous learning and professional development to stay updated on new technologies, methods, and regulations.
