Key Responsibilities:

  • Compounds and dispenses a variety of pharmaceuticals, including sterile and non-sterile products, chemotherapy agents, and nutritional solutions.
  • Manages the distribution of controlled substances to clinical areas while maintaining compliance with legal and institutional regulations.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and collaborates with healthcare professionals.
  • Oversees pharmacy support staff and verifies the daily operations of pharmacy technicians.

Ambulatory Care Responsibilities:

Provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care services through established protocols and collaborative agreements with healthcare providers. This includes managing patient medication therapies, anticoagulation management, patient education, and overseeing the preparation and dispensing of medications.

Engages in clinical activities in designated areas such as anticoagulation clinics, medical homes, and discharge medication reconciliation.


Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Ensures the delivery of safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapies in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Monitors patient drug regimens for potential contraindications, interactions, and appropriateness of therapy.
  • Accurately interprets and extracts information from patient medical records.
  • Provides timely and relevant drug information to the healthcare team.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and medication utilization reviews, collecting data and maintaining necessary documentation.
  • Occupational Hazards:
  • Potential exposure to hazardous substances, including chemotherapeutic agents and cleaning solutions.
  • Risk of exposure to biologic materials during direct patient care activities.

Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required.
  • Valid pharmacy registration in the state of practice.
  • Must obtain state licensure within 60 days of employment.
