About this Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Nursing Unit Director to join our team at MedStar Health. As a leader in patient care, you will oversee the daily operations of one or more defined units/departments of organized nursing and patient care services. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating a practice environment that exemplifies the values of patient care, implements a patient and nursing care delivery system that puts the patient first, and promotes an environment that supports the goals, mission, vision, philosophy, and values of the Division of Nursing and MedStar Health.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the cost-effective utilization of available resources (human, material, and financial) and ensure a high level of quality of care that is consistent with established standards of nursing practice for the patient populations served.
  • Hire, evaluate, coach, mentor, promote, counsel, discipline, and when necessary terminate associates, to achieve behaviors aligned with MedStar's vision, mission, and values.
  • Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure all operational, personnel, and financial activities are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health and entity's mission, vision, and values.
  • Monitor and analyze departmental performance data (e.g., nursing sensitive measures) and identify and participate in performance improvement opportunities.

Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program and at least 5-7 years of nursing experience, including 1-2 years of management and leadership experience. A Master's degree in Nursing or health-related field from a nationally accredited program is preferred. Additionally, the candidate must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia and hold current certifications in CPR (AHA or ARC) and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (NCC).

Estimated Salary: $140,000 - $170,000 per year, depending on experience.
