About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation/Controls Engineer to join our team at Dennis Group for New Grads, Co-Ops & Internships. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation and control systems for food processing facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Troubleshoot Automation Systems: Develop and implement automation systems using PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems to integrate manufacturing processes.
  • Automate Manufacturing Processes: Design and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency and quality of operations.
  • Network Infrastructure Design: Design and troubleshoot network infrastructures, including Ethernet, DeviceNet, AS-i, and Profibus.
  • PLC Applications Development: Develop new PLC applications, interfaces, and embedded controls to improve automation systems.
  • Facility Setup and Commissioning: Develop and implement setup and commissioning procedures for new facilities or upgrades of existing facilities.
  • Control Panel Design and Procurement: Design, specify, wire, and procure control panel equipment, including safety circuits, I/O, networks, and electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and Malfunction Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions, and make recommendations to improve efficiency or quality of operations.
  • Bid Documentation and Vendor Management: Develop bid documentation for Electrical, Automation, and Low Voltage vendors, and manage installation contractors during construction.
  • Documentation and Research: Document specifications and operating procedures, and research automation and controls materials and best practices.
  • Talent Growth and Development: Support talent growth within our organization by mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
About You
  • Education: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, GE Fanuc, and Honeywell Systems, as well as Visual Basic, SQL, and MS ACCESS Database programming skills.
  • Soft Skills: Proficiency with MS Office and AutoCAD, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Travel Requirements: Must meet travel requirements, with up to 50% travel required to visit project sites and other offices.
