General Overview of the Role

As a registered nurse, you will independently plan and deliver professional nursing care to patients, adhering to physician directives and established protocols. You will provide nursing services to patients and their families in line with the RN scope as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Nurses in this classification will commit to a minimum number of hours in a designated inpatient nursing department, with compensation reflecting years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, deliver, supervise, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines. Use your professional judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessments and responses.

Delegate tasks and oversee the activities of both licensed and unlicensed care providers.

Support other nursing staff in delivering care and assume the role of team leader or charge nurse for a designated group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.

Monitor and initiate corrective actions to ensure a safe care environment, including managing equipment and material resources.

Engage in your professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and pursuing relevant educational opportunities.

Act as a mentor and support the growth of other staff and learners.

Contribute to identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and participate in related activities.

Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience is necessary.

Licensure: Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina is mandatory. BLS certification is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Comprehensive understanding of the roles of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed staff.

Proficient in applying the nursing process effectively.

Strong knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.

Ability to assess the nursing needs of both acute and chronically ill patients and their families.

Capacity to independently seek resources and collaborate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.

Excellent communication skills with patients, families, healthcare teams, and leadership.

Competence in teaching patients and families according to the nursing care plan.

Ability to utilize sensory and cognitive skills to process and prioritize information and treatment.

Proficient in documentation and use of computer systems for clinical care.

Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and walking.

Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety protocols.

Completion of necessary regulatory requirements is essential.

Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing may be required.
