About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Duke Health. As a critical care specialist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the advancement of health in our community.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice.
- Evaluate appropriateness of medical orders and proficiently apply mechanical ventilator modalities.
- Perform endotracheal intubation under the observation of a Supervisor or Advanced Practitioner and serve as a member of the code/emergency team.
- Administer medical gases, insert nasogastric and orogastric tubes, and perform tracheotomy tube changes.
- Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection and interpret clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives.
- Participate in clinical rounds with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers and assist with Bronchoscopy and orientation and training of Level II RT.
- Completion of a two-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program (Associates Degree or the equivalent).
- Maintain annual skill maintenance and annual safety/compliance requirements.
- Maintain North Carolina annual license requirements for CEUs.
- A minimum of three years (preference of four years) experience in clinical respiratory therapy, including a minimum of one year in intensive care respiratory therapy within a neonatal or pediatric ICU.
- Advanced certification required (C-NPT) within two years of hire.
