Job Title: Bakery Manager

Job Summary:

Weis Markets, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bakery Manager to join our team. As a key member of our retail bakery team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our bakery department, ensuring high-quality products, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Customer Service: Promote excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. Smile and greet customers, answer customer questions, and help resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner.
  2. Order Taking and Production: Take customer orders over the phone or in person at the store with a pleasant and positive attitude. Determine what the customer is looking for in terms of size, flavor, and appearance. Create the finished decorated product in a timely fashion.
  3. Decorating and Merchandising: Decorate cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs, or by creating custom designs. Use a variety of creams, frostings, and fillings with consistent outcomes. Make icing for cakes and other related products. Adhere to company-approved recipes.
  4. Inventory Management: Manage department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports and ordering products and supplies to meet customer demands, drive sales, and company gross profit goals.
  5. Supervision and Training: Supervise associates within the department. May assume total leadership of the building in the absence of store management. Participate in associate annual performance reviews and new hire interviews. Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates.
  6. Merchandising and Pricing: Develop and implement merchandising plans that meet financial goals. Knowledgeable on weekly ads and specials to ensure correct pricing and production amounts. Continuously improve knowledge of produced merchandise. Adhere to and enforce company policy of production logs.
  7. Record Keeping and Reporting: Prepare, maintain, and track records concerning inventories to calculate gross monthly profits according to company guidelines. Maintain associate department records and reports on all important matters, including associate performance and discipline, sales, future plans, etc.
  8. Delivery and Receiving: Check and verify all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing. May help unload merchandise and transport to the sales floor or storage area. Enforce and follow department practices regarding receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure product rotation. Monitor product quality and freshness. Break down deliveries.
  9. Expense Control: Control department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling labor costs, and reducing losses due to damages, spoiled product, and shrink. Ensure associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products. Maintain freshness by properly removing and recording out-of-code products. Complete required product logs.
  10. Store Appearance: Keep the bakery department well-stocked and appealing to meet customer demand. Smile and greet customers, make suggestions, answer questions about various products. Help resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  11. Product Quality: Ensure that merchandise is fresh, in saleable condition, and properly priced with the correct signage. Handle spoiled and damaged product, or product that is close to expiration, according to company procedures and standards. Remove product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
  12. Additional Responsibilities: May assist with the production of breads, pastries, and other baked goods to sell. Adhere to the use of production logs and company-approved recipes.
  13. Sanitation and Organization: Maintain backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting 5S procedures. Responsible for general sanitation in the department. Follow cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean, and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Dispose of trash properly.
  14. Teamwork and Continuous Improvement: Ensure smooth function of the department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors. Responsible to continuously improve job and department performance.
  15. Personal Protective Equipment: Responsible for the utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to cut-resistant gloves, safety cutters, company-sponsored footwear, etc.
  16. Additional Duties: May also be called upon to assist in other departments.

Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, the Associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without an accommodation. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associate or bachelor's degree in business-related or food service-related field desirable. Minimum (3) years' experience in management in retail/restaurant/supermarket environment. Previous decorating experience preferred.
