Position Overview

The Student Financial Assistance Specialist plays a crucial role in the Financial Aid Office, managing various Federal Direct Loan, Federal Pell Grant, and State of California Grant initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in financial assistance, outstanding customer service abilities, and the capacity to effectively engage with both students and staff.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Executes the verification process for selected Title IV applicants.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all applicants and their families.
  • Distributes Federal Title IV aid to qualified students.
  • Monitors daily COD rejects, correcting processing errors for monthly reconciliation of Federal Direct and Pell Grant programs.
  • Engages in conferences and webinars to remain informed on Federal and State regulations.
  • Coordinates financial aid disbursement with the Billing Office.
  • Collaborates closely with Billing Office personnel to ensure timely fund distribution to students.
  • Tracks student Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for financial aid recipients.
  • Communicates with students regarding their SAP statuses.
  • Ensures adherence to Federal and State regulations.
  • Meets with students to address funding inquiries or related issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong expertise in Financial Aid is essential.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in state and federal compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in COD and the CSAC Webgrants systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring abilities.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Excel and database management skills.
  • Ethical and Honest - demonstrates a high level of confidentiality.
  • Exceptional organizational capabilities.
  • Service and Action-oriented – prioritizes meeting customer expectations.
  • Collaborative – seeks input from various sources for optimal issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with the Colleague system is highly preferred.
