Position Overview:

The University of Central Florida is looking for dedicated individuals to fill the role of Nursing Care Specialist I. This position involves delivering professional and culturally sensitive nursing services to patients. The Nursing Care Specialist I will operate under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, ensuring compliance with nursing regulations and adhering to guidelines set forth by relevant health authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care across various departments including Primary Care, Sports Medicine, International Health, Gynecology, Behavioral Health, and After Hours services.
  • Support healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and treatment plans.
  • Administer various forms of medication including inhalation, injections, intravenous, oral, and topical.
  • Collect necessary samples and specimens for diagnostic purposes.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests as directed, such as Electrocardiograms (EKG), COVID tests, and Spirometry.
  • Educate patients on medications, procedures, preventive measures, and self-care practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other logs as required.
  • Assist with mental health assessments and interventions as needed.
  • Engage in emergency response drills and annual training sessions.
  • Participate in infection control measures, including maintaining cleanliness and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Contribute to inventory management and control.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and nursing education sessions.
  • Engage in peer review processes and assist in laboratory tasks as required.
  • Conduct weekly medication reconciliation for assigned areas.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support clinic operations.
  • Complete all mandatory training in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold a valid nursing license in accordance with state regulations or be eligible for nursing practice as per applicable administrative codes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in outpatient care settings.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a recognized provider.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards.
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles and practices.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record systems.
