The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids employs a Membership By Design framework, which emphasizes member involvement and community building. All staff members—whether front-line, management, full-time, or part-time—and volunteers play a role in engaging with members. These responsibilities can be summarized in six steps:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The After School Program Assistant Educator will support the planning, development, and execution of classroom activities for after school programs. This role necessitates direct leadership within the program. Availability during weekday afternoons, specifically from 3:00 - 6:00 PM, is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the Site Coordinator/Supervisor in creating and leading daily lesson plans.
  • Actively engages with children in the classroom setting.
  • Facilitates daily communication with parents.
  • Prepares materials for daily activities.
  • Maintains attendance records, including arrival and departure times.
  • Supervises children effectively.
  • Assists the Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as necessary.
  • Communicates efficiently with the classroom teaching team.

Performs any additional functions deemed necessary for the effective operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association.

COMPENSATION

$17.75 per hour; Part-Time, Non-Exempt (up to 25 hours/week).

QUALIFICATIONS:

An Associate's Degree or CDA credential from an accredited institution is preferred; three to six months of childcare-related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. Ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Proficiency in computer usage and familiarity with various software applications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).
