The Before and After School Program at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is designed to provide a secure, enjoyable, and engaging environment for children. This role includes a $2/hour shift premium for staff who work both morning and afternoon shifts on the same day.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Before and After School Program Educators are responsible for creating a safe and fun atmosphere for children to prepare for and unwind from their school day. Assistant Teachers will support the planning, development, and execution of engaging classroom activities. Availability is required on weekdays from 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and/or 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Site Coordinator in developing and implementing daily lesson plans.
  • Prepare materials for daily activities.
  • Maintain attendance records and track arrival and departure times.
  • Communicate weekly lesson plans to parents.
  • Provide daily updates to parents regarding their child's activities.
  • Supervise children effectively.
  • Assist with parent-teacher conferences as needed.
  • Ensure the quality and availability of classroom supplies and materials.

Perform any additional functions necessary for the effective operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

COMPENSATION:

$18.28 per hour; Non-Exempt, Part-time (up to 25 hours/week). This position includes a $2/hour shift premium for those working both morning and afternoon shifts, paid monthly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in youth development for six months to one year, or an equivalent combination of education and training. Ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and a passion for working with school-age children.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).
