Job Title: Instructional Assistant, Bilingual

About the Role:

The Instructional Assistant, Bilingual will provide support to certificated teachers in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students in a classroom environment. This includes interpreting written materials and oral lectures, serving as an interpreter for teachers or non-English speaking parents as assigned, and assisting with classroom activities such as setting up work areas and displays, operating equipment, and distributing and collecting materials.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist certificated teachers in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students in a classroom environment.
  • Interpret written materials and oral lectures for students and parents as assigned.
  • Assist with classroom activities such as setting up work areas and displays, operating equipment, and distributing and collecting materials.
  • Monitor students in the classroom to ensure understanding of material being presented and report student progress and behavior to teachers as needed.
  • Provide after-school tutoring for students as assigned.
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties such as preparing, typing, duplicating, and filing instructional materials, scoring papers, and recording grades.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining student files and recording student attendance.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school and some experience using oral and written bilingual skills in an instructional setting.
  • Bilingual in the Spanish language.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret English and Spanish.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Working Conditions:

The Instructional Assistant, Bilingual will work in a classroom and playground environment. The physical demands of the job include dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students, seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities, hearing and speaking to exchange information.
