School Support Assistant

Amergis is seeking a dedicated School Aide to support students with special needs.

The ideal candidate will work under the supervision of the special education department to provide instructional and behavioral assistance to students. This role may also involve providing support services to assist students with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs, as established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker, or other healthcare professional.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Follows through with IEP objectives, including math, reading, speech, independent skills, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses, one on one or as a general classroom aide.
  • Facilitates teacher-directed learning activities, including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement systems, small groups, social games, and work assistance.
  • Assists students during recess and lunch periods, along with community experiences.
  • Communicates pertinent information to teachers.
  • Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities.
  • Assists with activities of prescribed programs, including those written by related service personnel, such as PT, OT, and SLP.
  • Assists students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities, such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • May be asked to assist in behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher and/or other school professional.
  • Assists teacher with clerical duties, including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation.
  • Appropriately reports changes in client status or as directed by IHP/IEP.
Requirements:
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals, including supervisors, co-workers, clients, via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
