About the Department:

About the Position:
The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a dedicated and skilled faculty member for the position of Director of Brass, starting in Fall 2024. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position focused on applied music instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Provide applied instruction to graduate and undergraduate music majors in the brass discipline;
- Engage in recruitment and retention efforts for brass students, coordinating events such as Brass Day and studio activities;
- Foster recruitment across various music programs, including orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz bands, and chamber groups;
- Teach courses in brass methods for music education, brass pedagogy, and collaborate on large ensemble support.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in music;
- Proven track record of teaching excellence and artistry at both local and national levels;
- Commitment to building relationships with music educators across various levels;
- Experience working with diverse student populations;
- Successful teaching experience at the collegiate level;
- Engagement with the music community and development of outstanding programs;
- Established professional artist with a portfolio of performances and recordings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in a liberal arts environment;
- Appreciation for a diverse range of brass music styles, including classical and contemporary;
- Leadership experience mentoring adjunct faculty in brass;
- Ability to guide research for doctoral students in brass.
