Position Overview:
Under the general guidance of the Senior Director of Advancement, the Senior Philanthropy Officer (SPO) is responsible for strategizing, establishing, and achieving fundraising objectives. This role involves managing time and human resources effectively while overseeing key elements of the major gift and planned giving initiatives, including potential comprehensive campaigns. The SPO will promote major gift and planned giving opportunities, identify, cultivate, and solicit significant donations, and ensure proper stewardship of major and planned donors.

Key Responsibilities:
The dynamic individual will dedicate substantial time to travel, engaging with a designated group of prospects to further the mission of the organization.

  • Fundraising Activities - 75%:
    Identify and nurture major gift donors through direct proposals, personal solicitations, and stewardship initiatives. Manage a portfolio of over 125 major prospects.
  • Develop and implement strategies for major gift prospects.
  • Create a marketing strategy to highlight planned giving opportunities.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the bequest and planned giving program, including website updates and marketing materials.
  • Maintain the planned giving inventory and enhance engagement with the donor community.

Collaborate with the Senior Director of Advancement and other team members to support fundraising efforts for various initiatives, maximizing participation and contributions.

Institutional Advancement and Community Engagement - 25%:
Provide assistance for major projects and coordinate with the entire Institutional Advancement division, including campus-wide marketing initiatives and special campaigns.

Work alongside the Director of Government & Corporate Relations to foster community relationships and manage proposals related to major gifts.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree is required, with a Master's degree preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in major gift prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation, preferably in an educational or nonprofit environment, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a successful track record in closing major gifts and possess knowledge of planned giving and estate planning concepts.

Preferred Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office applications and the ability to quickly learn new software systems are necessary. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required to effectively engage with various stakeholders.

Work Environment:
The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, involving interactions with staff, stakeholders, and the public. The role may require occasional travel and flexibility in working hours.
