Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Health Center Billing Specialist to join our team at Community Action Corporation of South Texas. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing and payment processing for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Claims Processing: Process claims to patients and other payers, and maintain supporting documentation files.
  • Customer Service: Respond to patient and insurance carrier inquiries regarding billing questions, and follow up on submitted claims.
  • Payment Reconciliation: Post and reconcile payments to patient accounts, and check each insurance payment for accuracy based on contracted fees.
  • Secondary and Tertiary Billing: Identify and bill secondary and tertiary insurance companies.
  • Account Analysis: Review accounts receivable and make recommendations to supervisor on delinquent accounts.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain billing/filing records in accordance with established protocol, and ensure strict confidentiality of financial records as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  • Coding and Compliance: Ensure that recorded CPT/HCPCS/ICD codes reflected in providers documentation comply with insurance carriers, federal, and state guidelines, and maintain knowledge of ICD/CPT/HCPCS coding and any FQHC specific coding requirements.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in medical office setting, and three years of prior employment experience in medical billing.
  • Education: High school degree or equivalent, and Medical Coding Certificate; RHIT or CPC by AAPC or AHIMA license; meet state licensure requirements.
  • Skills: Computer skills and experience in maintaining automated recordkeeping systems, knowledge of Electronic Medical Record software; Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive, good communication skills, written and oral, ability to work independently or as an active member of a team, ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently, accurate and precise attention to detail, goal-oriented, organized team player, and prefer bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements

This position requires light to medium physical duties, including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, hearing, and talking for up to eight hours a day. Must have good vision, with or without corrective lenses, and must be able to lift twenty pounds.
